About Suzanne
Born in St. Paul Minnesota in 1951, educated at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and the University of Victoria in British Columbia, Suzanne Bessette has lived and worked in Canada since 1973. When asked what brought her to Canada, she is pleased to credit Richard Nixon.
Suzanne has pursued her painting practice throughout her life while working in the Canadian cultural sector, and is the co-founder and coordinator of a professional art studio and gallery for artists with developmental disabilities.
Working principally in acrylic or oil on canvas, Suzanne’s work hovers in the space from the lyrical to the codified and back again in search of connection, emotion and beauty. Her painted images offer a narrative of struggle, place and transformation.
Her work appears in solo and group exhibitions across Canada and may be found in public and private collections in Canada and abroad.
